Veneers

A dental veneer is a very thin layer of a man-made material (usually ceramic, porcelain or composite) which can be attached to the front surface of a tooth helping to change its appearance. They are most often placed on the front upper and lower teeth. The process is quick, painless and requires minimal (if any) preparation time.

This is a simple yet effective way to transform the look of a damaged, stained or twisted tooth (or teeth) that you might not be particularly happy with. A veneer can also be used to help protect the surface of a tooth from further damage.

A dental veneer can give a subtle or a highly noticeable change. They can improve the size, shape, colour and position of one or more teeth. With a very natural looking finish, a veneer will help you get the beautiful looking smile you want in quick time and with the minimum of fuss.

What is involved?

It will take around 2 appointments to fit one veneer. The process will take longer if you require multiple veneers.

At the first appointment your existing tooth will be prepared by removing a tiny amount of enamel- creating space for the veneer to sit flush with your existing teeth. When the tooth is prepared, we will take an impression to allow us to custom make your new veneer.

Your new veneer will be coloured matched to your existing teeth using a matching chart.

It will take around a week to produce your new veneer. When it is ready it will be checked for fit, size and colour. Once you are happy with it, we will attach it securely in place with dental cement. This cement will be hardened under a UV light.

As the preparation of your tooth will have been done at your first appointment the fitting of your veneer should only take around 10 minutes.

Keeping your veneer looking good

Your veneer will be made from strong and hardwearing material that has the potential to last for many years. It’s still important to take care of it though- as it can be easily damaged.

Eating very hard foods could crack or break your veneers, while other bad habits such as nail biting or pen chewing could knock them loose. Small chips in a veneer can be easily repaired.

If you do notice any problems with your veneer at any time please contact us straight away.
